In
October of 2002, a group of civic-minded individuals began meeting monthly
to discuss ways in which Metropolis could become a better place —
a better place to do business, a better place to visit and a better
place to live. The first activity of the group was to create captivating
and eye-catching window displays in vacant storefronts along Ferry and
Market Streets. These engaging window displays have led to several new
businesses in the Metropolis Town Center — a new health club and
gym, law offices, and new retail establishments. The Metropolis Town Center's first event to attract visitors to the Town Center was held in October — a Native American Artifacts Exhibit in the City's Community Center. All visitors to the event agreed this should become an annual event. In October of 2003, this working committee took action to incorporate as a private not for profit corporation and elected a Board of Directors and officers. |
