New City Police Station

The Metropolis Police Department provides around the clock protection and service to the residents of their community.

Led by Police Chief Harry Masse the department is comprised of four patrol shifts each supervised by a Sergeant.

The Investigation Division is made up of a Supervising Sergeant, a Detective and an Inspector assigned to the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force.

The Canine Unit is comprised of a Sergeant / Canine handler and his partner "Bugsy" a yellow Labrador retriever trained in narcotics detection and tracking.

The Ordinance Enforcement Officer is assigned the full-time task of insuring that all city ordinances are complied with by the public.

Communications service is provided by four Tele-Communicators.

Office duties are supervised by the Chief of Police's Administrative Assistant.

The Metropolis Police Department provides officers to speak to schools and community groups on subjects ranging from bicycle safety to drug prevention.

Officers regularly patrol local schools during normal operating hours as well as during extra-curricular activities such as sports activities and Project Graduation.

Special patrols are provided at annual events including the Superman Celebration, Fort Massac Encampment, Labor Day Celebration and the Relay for Life just to name a few.

The Metropolis Police Department partners with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies on a variety of law enforcement assignments and is a proud member of the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force and the FBI Cyber-Terrorism Task Force.
