to the office of Corporation Counsel (formerly known as City Attorney)
for the City of Metropolis.
The City of Metropolis maintains a full time, in-house legal department.
The Corporation Counsel’s Office provides legal advice to both
elected and appointed officials as well as department heads and supervisors
on all matters pertaining to city business from A – Z; from acquisition,
contract procurement, budget development and implementation, negotiation
of collective bargaining agreements, negotiation and implementation
of economic development agreements, enforcement of ordinances, litigation
and zoning. In addition, Corporate Counsel acts as legal advisor to
the Local Liquor Control Commissioner, Police and Fire Commission, Metropolis
Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals.
The Corporation Counsel’s Office is staffed with a full time attorney
possessing more than 20 years of experience in local government law.
It is further staffed with an experienced paralegal/legal assistant.
The City of Metropolis maintains a comprehensive municipal law library
anchored by an online subscription to the latest legal publications
available through Westlaw.

Counsel’s Office is an integral part of the team of elected officials,
professionals, department heads and employees of the City of Metropolis
dedicated to providing quality services for the citizens of Metropolis.

from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. and
